社区参与是文化遗产旅游目的地可持续发展的必由之路，这已经成为国内外学术界的共识。然而时至今日，在发展中国家或地区的实际文化遗产旅游发展中，社区参与程度仍然较低。基于此背景，本书着力于对文化遗产旅游目的地的社区参与问题的研究，基于对丽江古城的实地调研，识别发展中国家或地区的文化遗产旅游发展过程中社区参与的现状以及制约其发展的因素，并构建文化遗产旅游社区参与的绩效评估模型。经研究发现，中国文化遗产旅游发展过程中社区参与程度处于中等，与参与者的人口特征、参与方式、参与深度和参与环境有密切关系。
